Wabash Y Visitors Get a Construction Sneak Peek

The Historic Wabash YMCA received nearly 350 visitors during Open House Chicago!

The Historic Wabash YMCA was selected as a host site for Open House Chicago 2024, now TRC’s second time participating in this citywide event. We were thrilled to open our doors again to the public and welcomed nearly 350 visitors over the course of the weekend.

Guests joined for a self-guided tour, with volunteer subject-matter experts posted throughout the building to answer questions and provide information on the Wabash Y’s importance as a historical, cultural, and architectural site. Visitors were also able to get a sneak peek of progress on construction and restoration projects throughout the building, including interior preservation work, restoration of the building exterior, and construction on the first-floor pool.

Volunteers including TRC staff, former interns, and residents additionally shared on our growing footprint in the Bronzeville community.

In 2025, TRC will celebrate milestones including the completion of construction and restoration projects, as well as groundbreaking on our newest development, Abrams Intergenerational Village. More to come as we head into the holidays!
