Why We Love TRC

On November 30th, TRC participated in “Giving Tuesday,” a global generosity movement. Giving Tuesday is about inspiring “radical generosity — the concept that the suffering of others should be as intolerable to us as our own suffering”.

TRC’s approach to Giving Tuesday was to ask our entire community to share why they love TRC. We received videos from residents, board members, staff, and general supporters shared some of those videos in a livestream on Facebook.

TRC is a place of second chances, we help people become better versions of themselves. There is no discrimination, we serve people of all backgrounds whether you have been fighting homelessness, disability, substance abuse, it does not matter. We have procedures and systems in place to help you reach the next level of your life.
— Kathy Pilcher, TRC Training Manager

During our livestream we also had the chance to sit down and listen to Renaissance Apartment resident Vanessa Wilhelmy’s story of her journey through overcoming addiction and towards self-sufficiency. She shared with us what it meant to her to be given a second chance and work towards her goal of becoming a traveling phlebotomist:

I feel like this place is a community family, everybody was really friendly when I got here. The residents and staff were supportive, so I see why it was called supportive services. They care about how I am doing, what my goals are, and If I need any help. I pray every day and night about how grateful I am.
— Vanessa Wilhelmy, Renaissance Apartments Resident

Stories like Vanessa’s remind us that everyone is deserving of a second chance and having wraparound supportive services is critical for a person to succeed.

We are proud to share that we met our goal set by the TRC Board of Directors to raise $2,500 for a match on Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday may be over, but we still have yet to reach our overall goal of $5,000 by the end of the year.

I’m asking you to JOIN ME IN SUPPORTING TRC by making a generous gift. Generous means whatever it means to you, because when you give and invite others to give that then puts life into somebody’s existence, they go from existing to living.
