Reflecting on 2023, Embracing 2024
As we usher in a new year filled with boundless possibilities, it brings me great joy to reflect on the extraordinary triumphs we had together in the past year. The Abrams Intergenerational Village development secured substantial funding from the Federal Home Loan Bank, Chicago’s Equitable Transit-Oriented Development program, and the Illinois Housing Development Authority. We announced a grant from the National Parks Service to re-restore the historic former Wabash Y, including the pool, mural, and gym floors. We welcomed nearly 500 people to learn the history of the Wabash Y during Open House Chicago. We successfully renewed the HUD contract for Senior Village 1, guaranteeing 70 apartments will be subsidized for the next 5 years. Last but not least, we celebrated Patricia Abrams, our founding Executive Director who retired after 31 years of service to TRC. These recent accomplishments were made possible due to her groundwork and strategic foresight. I extend my sincere appreciation for her dedication to our disadvantaged neighbors which will have a lasting impact for many years to come.
In 2024, our focus is on strengthening our partnerships and forging new ones that will amplify the reach and effectiveness of our programs. We will be enhancing awareness around the historic former Wabash Y with a new, exciting event scheduled for the end of February. We will engage the community to gather feedback on the programs for Abrams Intergenerational Village, which is scheduled to break ground in the Fall. Our headquarters building will undergo a full renovation. With the planning for all of these large projects finally reaching their peak, we look forward to bringing more development projects like the Workforce Development Center closer to fruition. Here's to another year of meaningful impact and collaborative triumphs.
Sincerely,
Oji Eggleston
Executive Director
