Revisiting Our Annual Benefit Event

On October 7th, we took an opportunity to reflect on “Us”, alongside our friends, families and supporters. After more than a year apart, our Annual Benefit Event was a moment where we safely gathered and celebrated our organizations successful year, shared our vision for the future, and honored individuals who had a positive impact on our communities. 

This year we were faced with the challenge of safely gathering in person or to continue the trend of an online experience.  Our event offered participants 
the choice of both an in-person and online experience that made it accessible to anyone wishing to support our mission.  

We also recognized and honored two special guests for their contributions to our community. LaShaun “Sah” Jackson was presented the Joan Wood award for his work with the Circle Foundation and Innovations High School. His passion for giving kids a space where they can express themselves and be supported was a key reason why Jackson was a recipient of the award. 

Stephanie Green was honored with the Bridge Builder Award for her contributions in the field of “creative placemaking” where she works with artists, arts institutions, and legal proceedings for artists spaces. Stephanie Green was also one of the attorneys who worked on the closing of the Historic Wabash YMCA prior to it becoming the Renaissance Collaborative. She also served on the Board of Directors for a period of time. 

We also featured TRC’s future projects including Senior Village II – an intergenerational development that will serve as a model for low-income seniors caring for dependents. Executive Director of TRC, Patricia Abrams and Executive Director of H.O.M.E., Gail Schechter both spoke on the growing need for both supportive housing and living facilities that cater to the ever-changing needs of our elderly populations.  

Our work with Senior Village II has been in pre-development phase, and we are excited to pursue the next steps of its development in the coming months and to share with all of you the progress that has been made!
