New Culinary Training Program

TRC has partnered with professional chef Aleta Williams of Loquacious Culinary to provide free culinary classes to the community. After finishing the training, participants will have received their ServSafe food service manager sanitation license and be connected to jobs in the culinary industry.

Technical training takes up the majority of the program, taking place both in the classroom and in the kitchen. Hands-on learning includes proper knife skills, kitchen measurement conversions, kitchen nomenclature/etiquette, proper table settings, and basic serving skills. Students also obtain an extensive understanding of standards for sanitation and safety.

Chef Aleta Williams

Meet Chef Aleta

Aleta is passionate about giving back to her community and supporting it through teaching. Aleta has been owner and head Chef at Loquacious Culinary for the last 10 years. She also teaches culinary arts with After School Matters, a Chicago nonprofit focused on developing after-school and summer programs.

“I have felt it was such a great way to give back and to give people an alternative to traditional jobs.”

As we begin preparing for the culinary program, Aleta is excited to continue the work of teaching culinary arts to anyone looking to pursue this career track.

“We’re already looking for ways to grow this program not only to help people who are transitioning from various stages in life, but also how to grow the program for the community and for TRC.”
